Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Miami faced off this Sunday at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium in the Round of 16 of the 2025 Club World Cup. The match ended in a 4-0 Parisian victory (PSG/Inter Miami highlights). After the match, the American team’s coach Javier Mascherano spoke at a press conference. He spoke of PSG’s ability to make history, and the consistency they need over time, as well as getting annoyed when asked a question.
Mascherano “this can be a team to remember.”
Can Paris make history?
Clearly Paris is a great team. A great team. We’ll have to see over time if they can hold out over the long term. But today, given the youth and quality of the players, and especially with the great coach they have, with whom I have a relationship that needs no description (smile), they can certainly be a team to remember.
It all depends on them. I was lucky enough to play for a team like Barcelona for quite a long time. For a long time, it set a trend. I’m not saying that because I played in the team. I’ve just been there with the players and coaches we’ve had. As for PSG, time will tell.
Mascherano “there are two types of soccer, real life and internet football”.
Should we have played a more defensive game?
More defensive? What did we do? What do you suggest? I think Renato Paiva (Botafogo coach) gave a great lesson in a statement I saw: “there are two types of soccer, real-life and internet”. I completely agree.
And the one in real life is the one here on the pitch. These are moments to be experienced. I understand that with the newspaper everyone knows how to play soccer. We try to do it in the best possible way.
Clearly, we wanted to play a defensive game. But we can’t think of putting everyone in the box either. That’s no guarantee of winning. We never pressed high, we didn’t do anything crazy. But this opponent has just won the Champions League final 5-0, taking an early 3-0 lead (smiles).
