On May 31 at Munich’s Allianz Arena, Paris Saint-Germain will face Inter Milan in the final of the Champions League 2024-2025 (kick-off 9pm, CET). It’s a chance for PSG to win the competition for the first time, and they’d like to celebrate with a parade through Paris, particularly on the Champs-Elysées. But it’s not going to be easy, say RMC Sport and Le Parisien.
Le Parisien :
“INFO LE PARISIEN. The Parisian club, which is contesting the Champions League final against Inter Milan in Munich on May 31, would like to see a descent of the Champs-Élysées in the event of victory. Discussions are due to take place with the authorities, who are not yet in favor of the idea.
Paris Saint-Germain are due to present their plan to the Préfecture de Police on Monday, but for the time being the authorities are not in favor of the idea. They fear there will be major disturbances on the avenue the day before. And they are reluctant to ensure the security of such a large-scale event a few hours later.
As anticipated, Paris Saint-Germain is hoping to broadcast the match on a giant screen at the Parc des Princes. “
RMC Sport :
“Discussions continue to ensure the smooth running of the May 31st event in Paris. In the event of PSG’s triumph over Inter, the possibility of a parade on the Champs-Élysées has met with the suspicion of the authorities.”
It’s easy to imagine that PSG would love to celebrate in style if they won their first Champions League. And last summer’s Olympic Games showed that Paris is capable of hosting huge events.
However, the authorities are understandably a little sceptical. There was some unrest during the second leg of the semi-final against Arsenal, and it’s easy to imagine some excesses. It could also be that some people are taking advantage of the unrest, even if they’re not PSG fans.
There’s nothing simple about it. Let’s wait and see where the discussions lead, in the hope of a great party. Broadcasting the final at the Parc des Princes at least seems to be on the cards.
