French basketball and San Antonio Spurs legend Tony Parker was invited by L’Equipe to talk about the 2024-2025 Champions League final between Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan at Munich’s Allianz Arena (kick-off 9pm, CET). He showed his clear support for PSG.
Parker “Luis Enrique has done a phenomenal job.”
“How do you imagine the final?
I want to see Paris win. It would reward their work over the last fifteen years. Above all, this year, you feel you’re dealing with a real team. They give off something special, they create emulation, they get people behind them, unlike other PSG teams in recent years. The players fight and play beautiful soccer. Luis Enrique has done a phenomenal job.
Parker “This team deserves to be rewarded.”
What message would you like to pass on to PSG tomorrow?
You can go all the way! This team deserves to be rewarded. You can have all the money in the world, but nothing is guaranteed, that’s the hard law and the beauty of sport. This PSG can do it.”
A pleasant comment, with all the merit of the current PSG underlined, but also a reminder that what was done before still has a certain merit. There have been mistakes, that’s undeniable. But there have also been successes. The club has developed very nicely, and there have been some fine achievements on the sporting front.
It also took a few episodes, a few attempts and failures, to get to this team. And even if the “stars” may have annoyed, they have contributed to the club’s progress and thus to the fact that we have a solid foundation on which to move forward, to attract a great coach like Luis Enrique.
Even if he wanted to change the project, with a young squad to grow, with players “hungry” for titles. It’s a whole process to get to this moment that could mark the history of PSG and soccer.
Parker is not mistaken and logically hopes for a Parisian victory, especially as he also has a certain history with Paris. It’s also a plus for the current PSG, with its game, its energy and its players who avoid controversy, it attracts support and enthusiasm more easily than in recent years.
It’s all coming together this season, but watch out for Inter Milan, who are also coming up with some fine arguments. PSG have what it takes to win, but there’s no guarantee of a final at this level.
