This Wednesday at 9pm (broadcast on Canal+), Paris Saint-Germain take on Liverpool at the Parc des Princes as part of the Ligue 1 2024-2025 round of 16 (return on Tuesday March 11). In an interview with Liverpool Echo, Virgil Van Dijk spoke about the match. He expects a good match and is looking forward to meeting a major team in the 2024/2025 season.
Van Dijk “These are matches we want to play”.
“I’m expecting a very good match, against an in-form team. They played very well in their last Champions League match against Brest (a double-header won by PSG 10-0). It’ll be tough, but these are the kind of games we want to play, and I’m really looking forward to it.
Van Dijk “It feels like the Champions League is moving to a higher level”.
Yes, of course, it feels like the Champions League is going to a higher level now. We’re in the knockout phase and we have no room for error. There are two matches to play and we want to be good to show that we deserve to go through. But we have to fight and do everything in our power to win. That’s what we’re going to try to do.”
These are strong words that herald a great battle this Wednesday. Sure of their strength, the Liverpool Reds will be applying the recipe they know best this season. The unknown factor? PSG’s ability to play at the same level as in recent weeks. There are doubts, because over the years, disappointment has very often been the order of the day.
It’s become difficult not to think about them, and therefore to have doubts. It doesn’t matter if the public doubts, it’s the players who can rewrite history and make all the failures a thing of the past. Van Dijk is right, it will be difficult for both teams, and that’s what the Champions League finals are all about.
