Paris Saint-Germain hosted Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday to close out the 15th day of Ligue 1 (3-1 video summary here). On the sidelines of the match, Désiré Doué, a 19-year-old midfielder for the club de la capitale, spoke to PSG TV about the victory.
Doué “I tried to listen to the coach’s advice”.
“It was a very important match. We saw that the teams in the top 5 had drawn a lot of games. So now we’re ahead and that’s very important. I felt really good. Once again tonight, I tried to listen to the coach’s advice, apply the tactics and also help my team-mates. Trying to do my best to perform and help the team.
Doué “We’re coming back well and that’s the most important thing.”
This victory is very important. It’s also important for the fans, who cheer us on all the time. They always push us, even in the most difficult moments we’ve had recently. We’re coming back well and that’s the most important thing. They’re still here and we’re very grateful to them.”
It was an important victory for PSG, who, with a week to go before the international break, managed to open up a 7-point lead over direct rivals Olympique de Marseille. Numerically, it’s an excellent coup, but even more so from a sporting point of view, as the Parisians have now won two very important matches.
Faced with OL, one of the most in-form teams in this championship, the task looked difficult. But by starting the game as they did, the Parisians made their task much easier.
They gave the Lyon team no hope, and were unable to come back from a goal down. Once again, this success should give PSG a boost of confidence. Realism seems to be taking hold in the Parisian attack, and that’s probably the best news of all as 2024 draws to a close.
