Paris Saint-Germain and AS Monaco faced off at Stadium 974 this Sunday for the Champions Trophy, a trophy virtually monopolized by the Parisians in recent years. Despite Parisian domination, the Monaco goalkeeper was beaten for long periods, and the only goal came in added time (1-0, PSG/Monaco highlights). Thilo Kehrer, a former Parisian and now an ASM defender, spoke to DAZN about the match, which ended badly for his team:
Thilo Kehrer: “You defend for 90 minutes”.
How hard is that scenario?
It’s the worst scenario you can have. For 90 minutes you’re defending, and of course PSG had plenty of chances. We tried a bit in the second half, but that’s against PSG, when you get a chance you have to take it. At the back, we were also a bit tired and we saw that they changed things around. It’s a shame, it’s sad, but to take a goal in the last minute…
You know how fast soccer goes, how are you going to get the troops back together?
You have to take the sadness, the emotions we’re feeling right now, of losing a final at the last minute and use that as motivation. We want to come back and play in a final, and we want to create another opportunity to win a title. I think the team and the club have the potential. We’ve got a lot of quality and there’s a lot of things we can develop, but you have to use your emotions as motivation.
