Paris Saint-Germain defeated Nice 1-0 this Saturday at the Parc des Princes in Matchday 11 of the 2025-2026 Ligue 1 season. After the match, PSG coach Luis Enrique spoke at a press conference.
Enrique: “We did the job, we thoroughly deserved the victory.”
Did PSG step up the pace in the last half hour?
“I think if we analyze the match, we were a bit too relaxed in the first 30 minutes. The latter part of the first half was better, and in the second half, we played very well. We did the job, we thoroughly deserved the victory.”
Enrique: “It’s frustrating when you face a team like Nice because they defend very well.”
Are you annoyed by playing against teams that sit so deep?
“I’m the Paris Saint-Germain coach, I’m looking to improve my team. I have a lot of respect for everyone else. I like attacking against deep-lying defenses because you have to be precise, but at the same time, there’s no time or space. It’s very difficult.
You have to make movements with and without the ball, and there’s a strategic element that I enjoy. It’s the phase of play I know best. It’s frustrating when you face a team like Nice because they defend very well, but that’s normal, I understand everything. That’s football, you have to know how to adapt.”
Since the Champions League victory, haven’t the players struggled to get into the game?
“No, you guys like to draw conclusions, positive or negative, but it’s the beginning of the season.” It’s great to see so many teams with a lot of points, but it’s not the time to draw conclusions. We need to manage the different competitions we’re playing in.
I think we’re in a good period. I’d like to emphasize that the fans sang for 94 minutes, and it’s only right for us, as a team, to have the same mentality as our fans and try to score until the very last minute. It’s very important for us to further strengthen our mentality.
How do you assess Ousmane Dembélé’s current form?
“Ousmane is a different kind of player. It’s great to see him on the pitch, but we have to be patient, we have to listen to his instincts. Watching Ousmane Dembélé for 10 or 20 minutes on the field is already exciting. We’re happy with his progress; we’re not worried at all about that.”
Enrique: “It’s important for him, for the team.”
What did you think of Gonçalo Ramos’s performance when he came on?
“He’s a very important player for us because he’s ready for every match, whether he plays or not. Five minutes of Gonçalo Ramos on the pitch means five minutes of hard work and quality. He scored the goal, from a very good cross by Kang-in Lee, a great anticipation by Kvara, and a very good goal by Gonçalo. It’s important for him, for the team.”
