Paris Saint-Germain are back in action in 2026 and rounded off Matchday 17 of Ligue 1 this Sunday against Paris FC (PSG/Paris FC video highlights). After the match, PSG head coach Luis Enrique reflected on the result in an interview with PSG TV.
Luis Enrique: “We have to be happy because these are three important points.”
“It was a return to the Parc des Princes, with a win! We could see how difficult this match was, but in my opinion we had a very good first half with many opportunities. We created a lot of chances to score—probably more goals. In the second half, it was more difficult and we had some problems. But in the end, we have to be happy because these are three important points.”
Luis Enrique: “We want to win trophies.”
“I hope we will win as many trophies in 2026. That is our goal, which is of course ambitious, but I think we are a team, a club, and supporters who are very ambitious. We want to win trophies, and that’s what we are going to try to do.”
For this return to competition, PSG needed to start the year with a victory—not only because it was the first match of the 2026 calendar year, but also because it was the first derby at the Parc des Princes. After a highly successful 2025, it is inevitably difficult to restart the machine and rediscover that same hunger for victory.
At the same time, the desire to keep making history by lifting even more trophies remains intact. January promises to be a busy month and should already set the tone for the ambitions and determination of the Parisian side.
