On Tuesday, aspart of Matchday 3 of the 2024-2025 Champions League, Paris Saint-Germain (19th) take on PSV Eindhoven (24th) at the Parc des Princes (kick-off 9pm, broadcast on Canal+). On the eve of this encounter, Parisian midfielder/attacker Lee Kang-In (23) answered a number of questions at a press conference.
Lee “Luis Enrique asks me for a lot of mobility.”
4 goals this season is more than last year. How do you explain that? Have you worked particularly hard on it?
I think the start of the season has been good. There’s always room for improvement. Me as a player and my team-mates, along with the staff, are always trying to win. The start of the season has been good for me and the team. I’m trying to improve every day. I’m happy to be scoring and helping the team.
What do you bring to the table as a centre-forward?
Every time I play as a 9, Luis Enrique asks me to be mobile. I think that’s good. I think we create space and therefore chances. With this freedom, I think we can have more opportunities and score more goals.
Lee “I’m going to get better and better.”
How do you feel you’ve evolved compared to your first season, are you feeling better, more incisive?
Since I arrived at this club, I’ve always tried to improve and work hard to help the club. That’s the most important thing. All the players try to help the team and improve, which makes the team strong. I’m going to get better and better (smile).
Lee “There’s more pressure here, it’s a big club.”
The match against Arsenal showed that the LDC was a level above Ligue 1, did this lead to some questioning in the dressing room?
There are things to improve, and I think we’re going to do them. In soccer, there’s always room for improvement. That’s what we always want to do to win.
How does being at PSG change your life?
That’s a difficult question. I don’t think it’s changed much. I’ve always loved soccer. It’s the most important thing for me, along with my family. There’s more pressure here, it’s a big club. So I’m always trying to improve to help the team, to be a better player. I’m concentrating on that.
How would you judge his start to the season?
As I said, the most important thing for me is to help the team by playing. And you have to enjoy it. The most important thing is to help the team win. I think this idea has helped me get off to a good start this season.
Lee “we want to show the best version of ourselves to take 3 points.”
In what position are you most comfortable in Paris?
The position I’m most comfortable in is playing (smile). It’s the same for all players: you want to play. No matter what, I’m always 100% committed to helping the team.
Is this match the most important for you to pick up points?
When you wear the PSG jersey, every match is important. Every game is a final in the LDC, and you always have to look at game after game. Tomorrow, we want to show the best version of ourselves to take 3 points.
Lee “It gives us a lot of strength.”
When you first arrived, were you told you’d have time to adapt? Does the team’s youth have an impact on performances in the LDC?
All players arriving in a new club, a new country, need time to adapt.
We have a team where everyone wants to help. It’s easy for all the young players, and that was the case for me. I think we’re a very young team this year, and we help each other out. That gives us a lot of strength.
How do you explain the gap between your home and away performances?
I think that’s the case for everyone. There are advantages to being at home. Playing at home, with the fans, helps. All matches are difficult, but at home there are advantages. But we’re always going to work to get the win.
Lee “Everyone helps and works to improve in order to achieve victory.”
Have you been working on your technique-based game since you were a kid?
I’d say that since I was a kid, I’m not a player with a lot of strength or speed. I have my own style, with a lot of technique. That’s helped me and now I’m at a big club, I’m trying to improve in all areas to help the team.
Barcola works on finishing all the players? Did you think he’d score so much?
We knew he was a great player. I think that more than talking about one player, we need to talk about the team. Everyone helps and works to improve in order to win. That unites us and makes us stronger.
