Arriving at Paris Saint-Germain in 2019, Xavi Simons — now a 22-year-old forward at Tottenham — never managed to establish himself at the Parisian club. Speaking to RMC Sport, his agent Ali Barat looked back on the situation and gave some context about that period.
Barat: “In football, there’s no room for regrets”
“PSG wasn’t yet in its current phase of developing young players, even though he did play a few matches. He then performed very well at PSV, at Leipzig and with the Dutch national team. Now he’s fully part of a project at Tottenham.
In football, there’s no place for regrets. You always have to look forward. So no regrets on his side? No, no, no regrets.”
The context back then was clearly different: PSG’s squad was packed with stars. Since then, the project has shifted and recruitment has focused more on young talents than established stars. Perhaps Xavi Simons didn’t have the mentality that matched the club’s current project.
Nonetheless, he’s been able to bounce back at Tottenham, and there’s hope he can show the full extent of his talent. He remains one of the great hopes of modern football and should confirm that in the years to come.
