Xavi Simons, a 22-year-old midfielder and striker from the Netherlands, was a great prospect at Paris Saint-Germain. However, he only really got going professionally with PSV Eindhoven and RB Leipzig, where he was sold permanently last winter for 50 million euros. He is now rumored to be on his way out, to the Premier League instead, and Paris is set to raise a little more money. That’s what journalist Abdellah Boulma has to say.
“As a reminder: PSG has secured 10% of the capital gain in the event of Leipzig selling Xavi Simons. Chelsea and Arsenal are monitoring the situation. As a bonus, Paris will pocket between 2 and 5% on each transfer of the player, for the rest of his career.”
With a sale price of 50 million euros and a price recently rumoured to be in the region of 70 million euros, PSG can therefore expect to make around 2 million euros this summer from the transfer of Simons. Not very impressive, nor a major change in the Parisian mercato. But it’s not nothing either.
Especially as there’s also the percentage to be reaped from future transfers. The Dutchman is only 22 years old, talented and heading for the richest and most watched league. There could still be some nice sums to come.
And, not least, Simons has caused problems for Leipzig and the national team with his behavior. A problem that Paris has been able to spot and avoid, without forgetting to negotiate well. There was the disappointment of not seeing the player return to PSG in 2023 and 2024, but little by little it appears that this was probably the best choice for the club.
