Grace Geyoro, the 28-year-old midfielder from Paris Saint-Germain, whose contract runs until 2028, is once again the subject of transfer rumors this summer, after several years of speculation. A transfer for the French international to London City Lionesses (owned by Michele Kang, like OL Lyon and Olympique Lyonnais) is now considered a done deal, for a record fee in women’s football. This was confirmed on Friday by L’Equipe and Le Parisien.
L’Equipe:
“This is a record transfer. PSG and the English club London City Lionesses reached an agreement on Friday evening for a fee of approximately €1.65 million for Grace Geyoro (28), as expected.
The French national team midfielder has signed a four-year contract.”
Le Parisien:
“As reported by L’Équipe, we can confirm that the 28-year-old French international midfielder signed with the ambitious London City Lionesses club, coached by former PSG manager Jocelyn Prêcheur, on Thursday evening, just before the end of the summer transfer window.
Having been approached by Chelsea several times in the past, Geyoro had always remained loyal to her beloved club until now, but the difficult recent months have finally changed her perspective.”
This is a significant moment for PSG, who are losing a player they developed through their youth academy and who has spent her entire career in Paris so far. She was even the captain, and she took the loss of the armband without a clear explanation very hard. This is undoubtedly a factor in her departure, as is the lack of stability in the club’s project. While it’s regrettable, one can understand her desire to experience something new.
Geyoro will embark on an ambitious project with a newly promoted club that wants to establish itself as a long-term fixture in the English top division. For PSG, at least, there is the record fee received for a women’s player. But it will also require considerable sporting strength, as Geyoro was a key player for the team. Let’s hope that the coming weeks will bring some positive news.
