At Paris Saint-Germain, Vitinha, the 26-year-old Portuguese midfielder, doesn’t seem to be causing any major concern ahead of the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich. According to information relayed by L’Équipe, PSG has a clear stance, also shared by those close to the player: confidence remains high despite the vigilance required by the upcoming match and his early substitution against Olympique Lyonnais this past Sunday.

“If there had been a final this week, perhaps he could have played.”

“How should we interpret this brief medical report? And what conclusions can we draw from it? That the capital club has confirmed its vice-captain’s absence against Nantes tomorrow (7 p.m.), that his presence in Angers on Saturday (7 p.m.) is unlikely, ‘but not impossible,’ as the club clarifies? In short, that depending on how the Portuguese player feels in the coming days, the medical and coaching staff will decide.”

As things stood, the capital club didn’t seem to doubt the presence of its midfielder for the first leg of the semi-final against Bayern Munich on April 28th. The argument was, “If there had been a final this week, perhaps he could have played.” The same tone was echoed by those close to the player.

The message that emerges is less one of genuine certainty than of controlled management. By not allowing doubt to take hold publicly around Vitinha, Paris is primarily seeking to prevent a climate of anxiety from becoming too dominant before a crucial match. The fact that those close to the player are adopting the same tone reinforces this impression of consistency: no one is dramatizing the situation, and that is precisely what is reassuring.

In this kind of situation, form matters almost as much as substance. PSG isn’t overplaying its optimism, but neither is it fueling the drama. It is a control communication, preventive in spirit, reassuring in effect, which aims above all to maintain a calm environment around the player as the semi-final approaches.
