Paris Saint-Germain won 2-0 against Auxerre this Saturday at the Parc des Princes, during matchday 6 of the 2025-2026 Ligue 1 season. After the match, Paris Saint-Germain defender Lucas Hernandez (29) spoke to the media in the mixed zone.
Hernandez: “That’s the way to go.”
A serious match against Auxerre, what will be the key factors against Barcelona?
I think it’s going to be a tough match… Away from home it’s never easy, but the strength of the team, I think that will make the difference. It’s true that we are going through a period with some injuries, but what’s important in a team is the team as a whole.
Everyone is involved. Everyone is part of it. And every time someone takes another player’s place, they perform well. I think that’s the way to go.
When you see the string of injuries, does it affect your mindset?
It’s never easy when there are a lot of injuries. But then, as I said before, the strength of this team lies in its collective spirit. Every player who comes on performs well. We hope to bring home a victory on Wednesday.
Hernandez: “Showing that everyone is ready.”
How can we turn all these injuries into a positive thing?
We’re doing it right now, we’re showing it on the pitch. Every player who comes on performs well. We have some players from the youth academy who have been promoted to the first team, and they’ve stepped up. They’ve shown character, and for all the youth players at the club, this is the path to follow: to show that everyone is ready.
And I hope that, since they were promoted last week, they will continue to help us, because we need everyone, and especially the young players. They are proving their quality and that they can be part of the first team, of course.
Hernandez: “We have everything we need to win.”
Is this also an opportunity for you to establish yourself as a starter?
Starter or not, I don’t know. In any case, every time the coach gives me the opportunity, I’ll be ready. And I know what path to follow, hoping to get more and more chances.
Is Barcelona an important milestone in this Champions League adventure?
Yes, it’s the second match of the group stage of the Champions League. We’re going there with everything we have to try to bring home a victory, of course. Barcelona will also do everything they can to win at home, with their fans, but we have everything we need to win.
