This Wednesday, December 17th, Paris Saint-Germain faces Flamengo at the Ahmad-ben-Ali Al Rayyan Stadium in Doha, Qatar (kick-off at 6 pm, CET) in the final of the 2025 Intercontinental Cup. And as before every match, here is a profile of PSG’s opponent.
Flamengo’s Situation –
Clube de Regatas Flamengo, more commonly known as Flamengo in France, is a historically significant club. Founded in 1895 for various sports, it only established a football section in 1911 and has seen many great teams contribute to its history. It even earned a place as the 9th greatest club of the 20th century in a poll conducted by FIFA Magazine.
Today, it boasts a very impressive record, although one might almost expect more titles given its more than 100-year history. Flamengo has been crowned Brazilian champion eight times, won five Brazilian Cups, and four Copa Libertadores titles (the Brazilian equivalent of the Champions League).
Including the 2025 season, which ended on December 6th (as the Brazilian season runs on a calendar year), they qualified for the Intercontinental Cup final against PSG. This followed the elimination of Cruz Azul and Pyramids FC, as only the European club receives a direct berth. This success was achieved under the leadership of Filipe Luis, former Brazilian and Atlético Madrid full-back, who took over as coach in 2024.

Flamengo’s playing style.
They don’t have the same control as a Champions League-winning PSG, but this team clearly has some great qualities and a habit of dominating their matches. Aggressive when possession is lost, they look to play a high line and control the ball in the opposition’s half. This is achieved through a game full of short passes to find solutions and different angles of attack.
PSG will need to be highly focused and ready to play with intensity in order to win the title. At least, we don’t expect a deep defensive block and a cagey match
