This Saturday, the Paris Saint-Germain and Fleury women’s teams faced off at the PSG Campus for Matchday 7 of the 2025-2026 Première Ligue Arkéma. After the 4-0 victory, coach Paulo César spoke in the mixed zone.
Paulo César: “The players are confident, we need to maintain that.”
How are you feeling ahead of the Champions League?
I think we played a very good match, the performance was good. Even though the red card gave them the advantage. The girls were focused, it’s important not to concede a goal. We won by a fairly large margin, with the numerical advantage, but also because we showed the necessary quality to score.
Congratulations to all the players, they were outstanding. I’m very proud; they had the right mindset, the one we’re looking for. The players are confident, we need to maintain that. We’re going to Manchester to play a very good match.
Paulo César: “It was important to see that she can adapt.”
Could we see a partnership between Kanjinga and Leuchter?
Why not? They complement each other. With Merveille’s (Kanjinga) power, there’s Romée’s (Leuchter) quality of control and finishing. Today, we tried it; it was a bit complicated at first. We changed systems back to a 4-2-4.
It was important to see that she can adapt; she also played on the left wing. Merveille is a player with enormous potential for further development. I’m happy with what she’s offering. Romée too; it’s important to have a striker who scores.
Paulo César: “What matters is the attacking play.” “
There have been a lot of questions about Sakina Karchaoui’s position. What position do you see her playing in?
In our system, she’s very effective on the left wing. She brings dynamism and defensive qualities, and she gives 200%. I also give Sakina some freedom; she’s a player who needs to be on the ball and to be between the lines. Ultimately, what matters is the overall play.
Today, in the second half, she was mostly on the right wing, using her dynamism in one-on-one situations to create the space we needed. She was also effective in the heart of midfield. She brings a lot to the intensity of the game and adds speed. I hope she can continue to help us in all phases of the game and make the most of her qualities.”
