Paris Saint-Germain faced Le Mans this Saturday at the Parc des Princes in Matchday 6 of the 2026-2027 Ligue 1 season. The match ended in a 3-1 victory for Paris. Following the game, Le Mans coach Patrick Videira spoke to Ligue1+ and in the post-match press conference.
Videira: “That’s what bothers me a little.”
“Does the scoreline reflect the gap in quality between the two teams?
Not every team manages to create three big chances at the Parc des Princes. What I told my players… Well, I’m a competitor, and I’m frustrated. Because I think that once we scored—once we equalized (in the 54th minute)—we got a bit carried away. We lost our tactical discipline and our organization, and that’s what bothers me a little.
That said, I think we could have done a lot more in terms of technical quality; we had planned to trouble them much more out wide and stretch them vertically. I think we gave a good account of ourselves, but I expected much more—as I told them.
Videira: “This match needs to help us grow.”
What did you tell them at halftime?
That if we wanted to win at the Parc des Princes, we had to do a lot more. We couldn’t afford to be complacent; we just had to acknowledge that we were losing 1-0 and that we needed to step it up. We know full well there’s a world of difference between the two teams.
When their coach (Luis Enrique) brought on four players at once, it was incredible. But still, you have to maintain that high standard of always wanting more. This match needs to help us grow.
Could PSG leave the Parc?
For me, Paris Saint-Germain is the Parc des Princes.”
Videira is very clear; he makes no secret of his disappointment. Losing to PSG—whom he still views as serious Champions League contenders—is nothing unusual. However, the feeling on the night was that his team could have done better. It is worth noting that Paris was far from its best, coming off the international break and with a match against Manchester City looming next Wednesday.
The approach taken was logical, and Le Mans could have capitalized on it a bit more. Yet, that also highlights the gap between the two squads. The Parisians who played remain top-class players, and overcoming them requires a high-level performance. The Le Mans side showed promise, but they still have lessons to learn. This is to be expected for a newly promoted team; they must use this match to improve, while also taking the positives from having given PSG a tough time—even if the Parisians fielded a reshuffled lineup.
As for the Parc des Princes, Videira’s sentiment is understandable. Yet, there is also a potential project and a clear logic behind moving on. Other clubs have done so and successfully turned the page.
