Paris Saint-Germain defeated Liverpool 2-0 this Wednesday at the Parc des Princes in the first leg of their 2025-2026 Champions League quarter-final (second leg on April 14). Following the victory, Reds manager Arne Slot spoke to TNT Sports.
Slot: “We can still turn things around at Anfield”
What’s your analysis of the result?
I think we’re lucky to have only lost 2-0. They had chances in addition to the goals, even though the first one seemed harsh, as it was a deflected shot when they had nothing. We can still turn things around at Anfield, which can help us.
Could Mamardashvili’s saves be crucial?
Yes. I watched the Bayern Munich vs. Real Madrid match, and Neuer was very important. Just like Mamardashvili was for us. We need performances like that, like everyone defending.
Slot: “PSG put in a tremendous performance.”
Frustrated at not having more chances?
Yes, we wanted to create more. But no, because we didn’t really have any opportunities. PSG put in a tremendous performance. We tried to press high, and it worked a few times, but it mostly created chances for Paris.
We had some promising situations, with duels, but that’s PSG’s strength; they never stop and tire out the opposition. We had a similar match to the first leg last year, but the return leg was very different. We’re happy to still be in the competition.
