This Tuesday at 9pm (CET) Paris Saint-Germain will face Liverpool at Anfield in the second leg of the quarter-finals (2-0 in the first leg) of the 2025-2026 Champions League. In a press conference, the Reds’ coach Arne Slot spoke about this match and their Parisian opponent.

Slot: “There are several things that make this PSG team special.”

“The keys to our comeback?

We need to be really, really special tomorrow because we’re playing the reigning European champions.

Our approach to the match remains the same as last week. We have to take risks, we have to press them, even though we know it’s very difficult to do against this team.

What makes PSG special?

There are several things that make this PSG team special. But what’s special is the full-backs like Hakimi who push forward on the wings and, above all, their skill on the ball. A right-back playing on the left is rare. A number 9 in the center circle is rare.

Slot: “We have to be much better than last week.”

Do we need a special performance to qualify?

” “We know we have to put in an exceptional performance to advance to the next round, especially against the European champions. But let’s focus on our work. We have to score the first goal. We know we have to be much better than last week,” these comments were reported by RMC Sport.

There’s no big surprise here; Liverpool can’t afford to sit back in this second leg. Especially since PSG wouldn’t be bothered by possession, which they know how to maintain even when pressure is being applied. Slot rightly pointed out the difficulty for the Reds: Paris is also adept at breaking the press and attacking quickly. We saw this several times in the first leg, with the Parisians exploiting space with a few touches and creating scoring opportunities.

Slot’s team can’t simply sit back, nor can they just go on the attack recklessly. They’ll have to go out there and be more daring than they were in the first leg, which was largely dominated by PSG. Which team will need to be even more focused and efficient to avoid giving their opponents any hope. The opponent, spurred on by their home crowd, will be looking for any opening to ignite the evening. But be warned, nothing is decided yet.

The Parisians have the advantage and some particular strengths, as Slot rightly pointed out, with a very fluid team and players who seem capable of adapting to almost anything. But we shouldn’t forget that Liverpool also has its weapons.
