This Tuesday at 9pm (CET) Paris Saint-Germain will face Liverpool at Anfield in the second leg of the quarter-finals (2-0 in the first leg) of the 2025-2026 Champions League. In a press conference, Reds midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai (25 years old) spoke about this match and the Parisian opponent with great enthusiasm.

Szoboszlai: “We’re ready to die on the pitch.”

“What’s the mindset?”

“We’re going to give our best for, I hope, only 90 minutes, but we’re ready to die on the pitch, and I’m speaking for the whole team. We really want it.”

“Can Anfield change things?”

“Anfield will have a big impact tomorrow. We’ve seen it often this season and in previous seasons. We know what it’s like to play for Liverpool, to play at Anfield in front of those fans, we know what it’s like.”

“Will PSG benefit from rest this weekend?”

“Of course, it’s different. When they can rest between the two matches, it gives them more time to recover, analyze the game, and be ready for the next one. After the PSG match, we were already focused on Fulham. It makes things different, but that’s how it is, we have to deal with it, and our job is to deal with it.”

Szoboszlai: “It’s a different team today.”

“The differences between PSG today and the team of five years ago?

It’s a different team today. They have stars, but not necessarily the same ones as in the era of Kylian, Messi, or Neymar. They have players with different attributes, in a different system. It’s very difficult to play against them today. They are full of confidence. We’re ready even if they’re leading 2-0.”

It’s understandable that Szoboszlai is showing maximum determination. It would be incomprehensible for Liverpool to consider qualification virtually impossible. His club must have ambition. And the 2-0 scoreline, ultimately frustrating for PSG in the first leg, is far from a scoreline that suggests an impossible mission. It’s a significant gap, but things can change very quickly. Especially if they score early in the match.

It’s reasonable to expect the Reds to push forward, with Anfield ready to provide the atmosphere for a memorable night. It’s up to PSG to find a way to dampen their spirits, whether through possession or goals. Ideally, both. In any case, Szoboszlai knows they must be wary of this PSG side, which is far stronger collectively than in the past. We saw that in the first leg, and they’ll need to confirm it in the return leg with a significant challenge to overcome at Liverpool.
