For the second leg of their Champions League playoff, Paris Saint-Germain hosted AS Monaco at the Parc des Princes and qualified after a 2-2 draw (5-4 on aggregate). Speaking to PSG TV, 21-year-old midfielder Joao Neves commented on the qualification.
Neves: “It’s time to grow by looking at our mistakes.”
“We’ve qualified for the next stage, and I’m happy about that. But I think we can do even better, and that’s why I’m not entirely satisfied. Because I know the level of our team and what we can produce in a match. We didn’t play like we usually do, and it’s time to grow by looking at our mistakes for the upcoming matches.
The fans? They’re the best I’ve ever seen. Even when we were losing 2-0 in Monaco, they kept going, and that’s why I always say they’re the best.” They are a great help to us.”
An important home victory for PSG, who managed to overcome AS Monaco after trailing 0-1 against the run of play. The upset could have gone to Monaco, but the capital club quickly regained control. The Monaco player’s sending-off obviously changed a lot of things.
But PSG’s dominance was evident from the start of the match and finally paid off in the second half. This match clearly shows that there are still things to improve for PSG, both offensively and defensively. But confidence should come with more matches and successes. A big step has nonetheless been taken tonight with the defending champions advancing to the Round of 16 of the competition.
