Paris Saint-Germain hosted AS Monaco on Friday to kick off Matchday 25 of Ligue 1 and lost 1-3. Ilya Zabarnyi, the 23-year-old defender for the capital club, spoke to PSG TV after the match.
Zabarnyi: “We want to do our best.”
“It was difficult, but that’s simply because we didn’t score enough goals and they did. That’s football, it’s unlucky, and of course, it’s a shame to lose at home. We have to keep going. I feel great within the team, and everything is fine.
The fans?
They’re incredible. We know that, and we always hear them. We also want to do our best. I just want to say thank you to them.”
A painful defeat for PSG, but one that remains logical given the team’s overall performance. For several matches now, this Parisian team has managed to snatch victory by the skin of their teeth, sometimes thanks to dramatic incidents, as was the case against AS Monaco in the Champions League after a red card for the Monegasque player.
Tonight, PSG was punished, and with the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie against Chelsea just three days away, nothing is reassuring. It was clear that the season would be difficult after the disrupted preseason, but a resurgence was expected, especially as crucial matches approached. However, it’s undeniable that this Parisian team remains in a slump, and the rest of the league season, as well as their European campaign, looks set to be a struggle.
