On Thursday evening at the Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium in Kuwait, Paris Saint-Germain faced Olympique de Marseille for the Trophée des Champions. While OM displayed quality football this year, it was the Parisians who ultimately prevailed in a penalty shootout (4-1 on penalties) after equalizing in the final seconds of stoppage time. Leonardo Balerdi, defender and captain of the Marseille club, spoke to Ligue1+ to express his disappointment.

I imagine it’s not easy to find the words at this point, is it?

Yes, we’re disappointed. We came here to win the trophy. We did what we needed to do, but we faltered in the final minutes, and we missed a lot of chances. And unfortunately, we didn’t do well with the penalty.
