This Friday, as part of Matchday 8 of the 2025–2026 Ligue 1 season, Paris Saint-Germain (1st) will face Strasbourg (3rd) at the Parc des Princes (kick-off at 8:45 p.m., broadcast on Ligue1+). The referee appointed for the match is Clément Turpin (43), one of France’s most experienced officials, with 303 Ligue 1 matches to his name.

He will be assisted by Nicolas Danos and Benjamin Pages, while Pierre Gaillouste will serve as the fourth official.
Video assistance will be provided by Nicolas Rainville and Ludovic Remy.

Yellow Cards

With Turpin in charge, we can expect fewer yellow cards than average.
While the national average in Ligue 1 stands at 3.53 yellow cards per match (standard deviation 0.39), Turpin’s career average is 3.17 per game (Transfermarkt data) — significantly lower than the norm.
Let’s hope this reflects good match control rather than a lack of protection for players.

Direct Red Cards

Turpin, however, tends to be stricter when it comes to direct reds.
He averages 0.19 direct red cards per match, compared to the national average of 0.17 (standard deviation 0.07).
This suggests he doesn’t hesitate to punish violent conduct or serious fouls.

Second Yellow Cards

The referee is less likely than most to send off a player after a second booking.
The national average sits at 0.09 per game (standard deviation 0.03), while Turpin’s rate is 0.07.
With relatively few yellows overall, but still a notable red card rate, the numbers line up logically.

Penalties

Finally, regarding penalties, Turpin tends to award slightly fewer than average.
He whistles 0.31 penalties per game, while the Ligue 1 average is 0.34 (standard deviation 0.08).

In short, Clément Turpin is a measured but firm referee — one who lets the game flow but remains uncompromising on serious infractions. His experience should help keep this high-level clash between PSG and Strasbourg under control.
