This Wednesday, Paris Saint-Germain hosted Tottenham at the Parc des Princes for Matchday 5 of the Champions League group stage and came away with a 5–3 victory. Speaking to PSG TV, 25-year-old midfielder Vitinha reflected on his performance and that of the team.
Vitinha: “We continue to show personality when things get tough.”
“To be honest, I had never thought about scoring a hat-trick. Maybe João (Neves) inspired me! But it’s true that when it happens, you start thinking that maybe you can do it too. It’s a mental thing. I’m very happy about the hat-trick, but above all about the team and its character, because once again we managed to overcome difficulties, helped by the atmosphere and these incredible supporters.
I think we form a great team together here at the Parc. They never stopped believing in us, even when we went behind twice.
I think we fell behind twice against the run of play, but we kept our cool, kept playing, and came back. So once again, congratulations to the team, it’s incredible. Last year, we won a lot of games like this. We continue to show personality when things are difficult. So I’m very happy about the win and the hat-trick!”
It was an exceptional performance from Vitinha, who managed to score a hat-trick including two stunning goals. The Portuguese midfielder, already impressive and indispensable in PSG’s play, is now proving to be a top-class goalscorer as well. His first strike under the crossbar allowed PSG to get back into the game and believe in victory. Vitinha is gradually becoming the leader of the midfield — and of the team as a whole.
He is imposing himself as a true leader, and his performances speak for themselves. Already a key figure in last season’s Champions League success, he should once again guide his club toward the top this year, just as he is doing with his national team, where he shines alongside João Neves in midfield.
