This Saturday evening, Paris Saint-Germain drew 1-1 (video summary Reims/PSG) against Reims on Matchday 5 of Ligue 1 2024-2025 at the Stade Auguste Delaune. We take a look at some of the highlights and lowlights of the draw.
Tops –
Pacho, the surprise continues
Strong in duels, self-confident and hard on the man, Pacho was once again one of Paris’s finest performers. He was the boss of the defense and kept the valiant Reims side at bay. Man of the match in many respects for PSG, he never ceases to impress, even though he was a complete surprise at the mercato.
Neves – active for two
It’s a good thing he’s been there in midfield for the last two games. His introduction against Girona and his start against Reims paid off. He ran a lot, he fought a lot, he’s a great footballer. He delivered the decisive pass of the match, another one. From start to finish, he never lets himself down, and PSG can count on him without batting an eyelid.
Flops –
The forward line
How can you put in a good performance when the attack misses everything, from control to technical gestures to finishing? It’s a good thing Dembélé scored off the bench, because neither Barcola, Doué nor Kolo Muani showed they could score goals when the team was in trouble.
Vitinha the x-factor
He’s not been doing so well since his injury, and it’s showing. He’s losing duels, and he’s hardly making any headway in the game. Without a great Vitinha, the season could quickly become worrying. Two games where he’s been less good, two complicated PSG games, there’s no coincidence.
Luis Enrique
If there’s one man to blame for the club’s recent difficulties, it’s Luis Enrique. Praised when things are going well, he must also understand that by being spread too thinly, the players are in great difficulty, especially when the team seems to be struggling physically.
He used a large turnover, which is a rather good idea, but it was clear that this was done without certainties, with players still far from their level. He needs to restore confidence, but his squad appears limited, and he’s responsible for that.
