This Sunday, during Matchday 1 of the 2026-2027 Ligue 1 season, Paris Saint-Germain faced Rennes at Roazhon Park. After a match where the Rouge et Bleu dominated but lacked clinical finishing for long stretches, they were held to a 2-2 draw. Here are our ratings for the Parisian players.
Goalkeeper –
Matvey Safonov (6) – Conceded two goals, but it is hard to fault him for them. On the plus side, he showed good ability with the ball at his feet, particularly during some crucial forays well outside his box.
Defenders –
Achraf Hakimi (7) – Impressive work rate down his flank, coupled with some vital defensive recoveries. It is a shame he couldn’t make a decisive contribution, though he came very close; Ousmane Dembélé just needed to be more precise with his finishing in the first half.
Marquinhos (6) – Solid overall; he was not at fault for the goals conceded. PSG’s high-risk approach could have left him exposed, but the Parisian defense held up well.
Willian Pacho (6.5) – More assured than in recent matches, though not quite commanding. He faced some challenges dealing with tricky counter-attacks but made a crucial goal-line clearance when the score was 2-2.
Lucas Hernandez (4) – A few good interventions, but also some struggles; he was caught marking Lepaul far too loosely when the latter scored to make it 2-0.
Midfielders –
Vitinha (6.5) – Generally dominated the midfield, though he could have played more incisive passes as they approached the penalty area. He also seemed to lack a bit of physical freshness defensively. Replaced in the 69th minute by Lucas Beraldo.
João Neves (6.5) – Put in a huge shift in terms of winning back possession and using the ball; he just lacked that touch of magic needed to put PSG on the path to victory. Replaced in the 60th minute by Fabian Ruiz.
Warren Zaïre-Emery (7) – He could have scored; that remains a disappointing aspect of his performance. However, his numerous ball recoveries and several excellent passes are notable positives. Replaced in the 60th minute by Maghnes Akliouche.
Forwards –
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (5) – A few good runs, but his contribution was rather disappointing for a player who had the benefit of a full pre-season. Replaced at half-time by Mika Godts (5). An encouraging cameo, featuring some lovely flicks. He will need to settle in further to bring more cutting edge to his game.
Ousmane Dembélé (4) – He created danger; that cannot be overlooked. However, he also lacked end product significantly—particularly just before the score went to 2–0. That proved costly, as a 1–1 scoreline would have changed the complexion of the match entirely. He is expected to be a decisive player. Replaced at half-time by Ferran Torres (9). Impressively intelligent; he made a huge impact beyond just his two goals. A masterful debut.
Désiré Doué (6.5) – Showed tremendous energy in creating chances while also contributing defensively. However, he lacked that final touch of quality needed to be decisive.
Coach –
Luis Enrique (7) – His team is dominating despite a lack of match fitness; it is hard to fault him. A slight lack of composure—which earned him a yellow card—was the only downside.
