Milan Skriniar, 29-year-old central defender for Paris Saint-Germain (contract until 2028) and Slovakia (74 caps), was at a press conference on Wednesday on the sidelines of his national team’s training camp. In particular, he was asked about his summer departure and his current state of mind.
Skriniar “we’ve made a decision with the club.”
“There were a lot of options. Several of them were on loan. Then we made a decision with the club that it would be better for me to stay and fight for a chance to get into the eleven.
Mentally, I’m fine. I’ve been looking forward to the game. The situation is what it is and I’m certainly not happy about it. The only thing I can influence is that I’m training well.”
The Slovakian captain could have left this summer, as the club was not closed to it and he could have asked himself the question, despite the fact that his playing time was likely to be low. However, given the offers on the table and the lack of options to replace him, both parties preferred to continue together.
This could lead to a pleasant surprise, with Skriniar returning to his best. Indeed, his last appearance on the pitch was more satisfactory. However, he was unable to follow this up.
It’s likely to be a long season for the defender, who is already playing little while Lucas Hernandez and Presnel Kimpembe are in the infirmary. But we appreciate his determination and wish him every success in becoming one of the season’s great newcomers.
In the meantime, he must make the most of his time with the national team to gain game time and confidence.
