Lucas Chevalier has taken a significant step in his career with his transfer from Lille to Paris Saint-Germain. He discussed this milestone in an interview with the newspaper Le Figaro. In addition to the challenges of adapting, the goalkeeper opened up about his role in coach Luis Enrique’s system and his objectives in Paris. He makes no secret of his immense ambition.
Chevalier “Being the Trigger”
“Lucas Chevalier on Luis Enrique:
He has a vision of the game, both collectively and individually. In this case, what he asks of me is quite natural for me, very simple things, like bringing continuity to the game to avoid unnecessary and very dangerous passes through the middle. He asks me to be very available and to be as clean as possible; he hates it when I take risks.
I’m not the one who’s going to score the goal or make the decisive pass, but I can be the trigger. We’re still progressing, we’re going to play some big teams. I might have more opportunities to find dangerous passes at those times, rather than against deep-lying defenses. It seems simple because it’s going well, but it requires composure and technical mastery.”
Chevalier “As much as possible!”
Your goals and dreams for the future?
” “I really feel that PSG is the kind of club where you can stay for a very long time. Everything is in place to perform. I feel everyone is confident. The staff, the players… I think winning the Champions League has really calmed the club. You feel a sense of serenity. I hope to win many more team titles, Ligue 1, the Coupe de France… The ultimate dream would be to win a second, a third Champions League… As many as possible!
Everyone’s talking about winning a second Champions League in a row. It’s definitely a goal. And to make my loved ones, my family, and myself proud, to prove to myself and my family that I could succeed here. And the fans too. They know me a little from Lille, but not really the person and what I can bring to a club. I want to repay them.”
Chevalier came for his ability to make saves, obviously. But it’s clear that he’s not only here for that; his footwork is extremely important. It’s about injecting pace into the game against deep-lying defenses, even if it’s less “visible” from the outside, like breaking free from the press. Not just by avoiding a mistake, but by being a real asset. This could be with a long or medium-length pass that breaks at least one line. A real weapon when possible, even if there’s an element of risk. The Parisian goalkeeper should have the opportunity to shine tonight against Bayern Munich. Probably on his line as well.
This could be a significant step in his PSG journey, even if it doesn’t end tonight, regardless of whether he delivers a great performance or not. Chevalier sees himself in Paris for the long term, and that’s certainly PSG’s plan too. Of course, it’s a place that has to be earned. This should come with important victories and titles. The goalkeeper and his team will be aiming for the Champions League, in particular. With a certain degree of confidence, thanks to last season’s title. This does not diminish the desire to assert oneself further, but the pressure eases a little.
