Thierry Henry, former coach of France’s U-21 team, spoke to CBS Sport about the case of 19-year-old midfielder/attacker Désiré Doué. He praised the performance of his former protégé, pointing out that his goal was difficult to score. He promises him the best for the future.
Henry “He was almost unstoppable”
“He was almost unstoppable. People can see his technique, his finishing, his awareness of his position between the lines. But what I find exceptional is that to be able to generate power when someone pushes you at the moment of shooting (on his goal, editor’s note), that’s not easy, believe me. If
‘he’s like that, able to put Barcola on the bench despite having been in the national team before him, that’s a special talent. I hope he can stay like this and last a long time.”
Everyone saw Doué’s talent. No need to be surprised, we knew he had this potential, we just didn’t know if he could deliver it on the pitch, so quickly, with PSG.
His performances in top-level matches, including the Champions League, show that he’s ready. He’s more than an understudy in Luis Enrique’s eyes, and with every match he shows that he’s not just a flash in the pan.
He’ll have to keep at it to become even more convincing, but he’s different, and what he’s doing is of a very high standard and quite rare. He has everything it takes to become a great player.
