Here’s our series. The 5 best reasons to watch a match (with some minor adjustments). We’ll be highlighting the key points before each match with a mix of seriousness and humor. Please note, this isn’t meant to be an exhaustive overview. We continue here with the match between Paris Saint-Germain (1st) and Olympique Lyonnais (6th) this Sunday at Groupama Stadium for Matchday 12 of the 2025-2026 Ligue 1 season (kick-off 8:45 PM, CET).
5 – A great match-up that almost disappeared.
This Lyon/PSG fixture is a classic in French football history; it’s always worth watching. Especially since it’s often a spectacle. This fixture almost disappeared last summer due to OL’s financial difficulties. A little reminder of the precariousness of a place in football.
4 – Collective Response?
This Tuesday, PSG suffered their first defeat of the 2025-2026 Champions League campaign, and they are not used to losing. This came at the end of a frustrating match that cost them three injuries (Nuno Mendes, Ousmane Dembélé, and Achraf Hakimi). It’s a blow, but they mustn’t let it get them down. We expect a reaction as a team, with ambition.
3 – Gonçalo Ramos back in the starting lineup?
With the latest injury setbacks, Gonçalo Ramos (the 24-year-old striker) could return to the starting lineup after four consecutive matches on the bench. This is another opportunity for him; he must seize it if he wants more playing time. The Portuguese player needs to be a real weapon for this PSG team.
2 – Lee Kang-In, a spark to be confirmed.
Lee Kang-In, the 24-year-old midfielder/forward, has been one of the few bright spots lately. He has gained confidence and is increasingly using his considerable technical ability to contribute to a bold style of play. The Korean brings a welcome touch of creativity, not to mention his tireless work rate when possession is lost. He needs to prove he can be a real asset in finding attacking solutions.
1 – Being top of the table during the break.
This Monday marks the return of the international break. It’s not a disaster not to be top of the table in November, after 12 matchdays. However, it’s much better for confidence and composure to be in first place. It also avoids fueling the hopes of rivals, as well as the media, who thrive on a bit of drama surrounding PSG. They can’t afford to slip up, especially since the top spots remain very tight.
