Paris Saint-Germain took on Toulouse at the Stadium on Saturday, as part of the 22nd day of Ligue 1 2024-2025. Toulouse coach Carles Martinez Novell spoke at a press conference after the 0-1 Parisian victory (video highlights Toulouse/PSG). He spoke of his team’s game plan and lack of realism.
Martinez Novell “That’s soccer, they scored, not us”.
“The reality is that we didn’t score. We knew we wouldn’t have many chances and that we’d have to take them. I deplore this killer instinct we lack. It’s true in both areas.
But what are your reasons for satisfaction ?
The team did everything we wanted. They stuck to the plan. We were there. We knew that Paris were at the height of their season. They’re scoring a lot of goals at the moment. But we stayed in the game right to the end. We tried.
If we wanted to come back, we had to find a balance without getting too exposed. We didn’t manage to equalize, but I’m happy with the team. That’s soccer: they scored, not us. I have no regrets”, comments relayed by L’Equipe.
Indeed, there wasn’t much of a difference in the scoreline, and so the feeling was that PSG were just a little more efficient. Especially as Toulouse had some interesting opportunities. We shouldn’t forget, however, that the Parisians missed some huge chances and that there could also have been several goals between them.
There are different approaches in Paris, with some preferring to try and create chances and play, and even trying to press high up the pitch. Martinez Novell preferred to defend first and foremost, even when trailing. You have to defend, you have to play with your weapons. And the draw wasn’t far off. Even if it’s regrettable that there wasn’t a little more “audacity” and spectacle. To each his own in this vast game.
