Marco Asensio, Paris Saint-Germain’s 29-year-old midfielder/attacker under contract until 2026, failed to fully establish himself with coach Luis Enrique. So he was loaned out to Aston Villa for the second half of the 2024-2025 season, but was not retained by the English club. After his return, we’re waiting to find out what his future holds. Sports Digitale claims this Tuesday that the player has had a meeting with Fenerbahçe coach José Mourinho about a transfer.
“There has been a meeting between José Mourinho and Marco Asensio to discuss a move to Fenerbahçe, according to Sports Digitale.”
This possible move to Fenerbahçe has been mooted for some days now, and is not insane. The Turkish league has already relaunched several big names in “difficulty”, such as Milan Skriniar at Fenerbahçe in 2025. Skriniar is expected to stay and could help Asensio integrate.
In any case, the Spanish attacking player no longer really has a place in Paris, and this exit door seems rather interesting. After a complicated end to the season at Aston Villa, it will be hard to get much better than this, despite a great start. It’s at least possible. But there’s nothing concrete yet, so there’s no certainty.
