Lucas Chevalier, the 24-year-old French national team goalkeeper, arrived at Paris Saint-Germain from Lille during the 2025 summer transfer window to replace Gianluigi Donnarumma. However, he has yet to establish himself as the first-choice goalkeeper and has seen Matvey Safonov (27) take over the starting position. Doubts are therefore arising about his future. L’Equipe reported on Tuesday that Besiktas and Tottenham have made inquiries.
Chevalier has certain expectations.
The French goalkeeper, currently on vacation, is waiting to learn more about the Parisian club’s plans for next season. Other clubs are taking advantage of this situation to gather information, understand the former Lille player’s desires, and position themselves. This is the case with Besiktas. The Turkish club, looking for a top-class goalkeeper, has made inquiries in a matter that could prove difficult to finalize.
Even if he were to leave PSG and despite the high salaries paid in the biggest clubs in Istanbul, Chevalier would likely prefer a project deemed more attractive. A few weeks ago, Tottenham, also looking for a goalkeeper, made the same approach as Besiktas.
We remain cautious; these are just rumors, and we can’t always say the sports daily is accurate about PSG’s transfer activity. However, it’s quite plausible that Chevalier is attracting interest. The goalkeeper market is still rather closed, and the former Lille player’s situation looks like a great opportunity. There’s the possibility of reviving a goalkeeper who shone at Lille and undoubtedly hasn’t lost all his talent. This also allows him to maintain a certain outlook for the future.
It shouldn’t be ruled out, however, that Chevalier will continue to fight to establish himself at PSG, who might try to justify their investment rather than giving up already, likely at a loss on the €40 million spent a year ago. Let’s wait and see; football can change very quickly.
