For several weeks, there has been talk of Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye leaving Paris Saint-Germain. The forwards—aged 23 and 18—are under contract until 2028 and are not expected to extend their deals; the former has even explicitly refused to do so. Liverpool is reportedly keen to seize the opportunity. RMC Sport and L’Equipe have provided updates on the situation, noting that negotiations between PSG and the English club have yet to progress.
RMC Sport:
“Ibrahim Mbaye has reached an agreement with Liverpool on a five-year contract. The PSG winger wants to cross the Channel to join the English club. The Reds are now set to accelerate negotiations with the two-time European champions in an attempt to secure the Senegalese international’s transfer. The Paris native did not feature in the matchday squad for the Trophée des Champions loss against RC Lens.
The 1.75m right-footer watched the match from the stands alongside Bradley Barcola, who is also on Liverpool’s radar. Indeed, the Reds are continuing discussions with PSG regarding the French international; an offer is expected later this week.
L’Equipe:
After submitting an initial proposal to PSG—which was rejected—the Reds plan to make a renewed approach before the end of the week. While the two clubs are not always in direct contact, their dealings are intertwined, as the Northern English club also hopes to sign Ibrahim Mbaye.
PSG maintains the same stance on both matters: their departure has been sanctioned, provided an offer arrives at a price the club deems acceptable.
The scenario is credible—even logical—following their exclusion from the matchday squad against Lens on Sunday. With the arrivals of Ferran Torres (26) and Mika Godts (21), playing time for Barcola and Mbaye is likely to become even scarcer. For now, they are primarily being sidelined to avoid the risk of an injury disrupting negotiations. Regardless, their playing time would likely be limited for the remainder of the season given the attacking reinforcements added this summer.
Departure is now clearly the desired outcome for all parties, which should facilitate discussions. However, there is no intention of simply handing a gift to Liverpool. The Reds possess significant financial power and must make a genuinely attractive offer for these two talented players, who still have many years of their careers ahead of them.” The transfer is hoped for but not yet guaranteed. We will have to wait and see how the negotiations unfold to be certain.
