Ilya Zabarnyi, the 22-year-old central defender from Bournemouth (contract runs until 2029) and Ukraine, has been announced as one of Paris Saint-Germain’s defensive priorities for the mercato. There was even talk of some progress towards a transfer. However, The Athletic reports this Tuesday that there is strong competition from Newcastle.
“According to TheAthleticFC, Newcastle are competing with PSG on two joint leads:
Illia Zabarnyi is highly coveted at St James’ Park!
Lucas Chevalier, who recently said: “The Premier League? It’s the most attractive league”. For PSG, the French international is plan B. Plan A is Donnarumma.”
Nothing impossible, since Zabarnyi is an excellent defender who can of course attract various offers. Newcastle could be a suitor, as could other teams. But there’s nothing certain either, as this is just a rumor. Especially as it could come from the player or Bournemouth, in order to put pressure on PSG in the negotiations.
So let’s wait and see. As always, caution and patience are needed during the mercato.
As for Lucas Chevalier (Lille goalkeeper), the rumor of Parisian interest is too vague to be of any real interest.
