At 26, Vitinha, the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, made a significant statement on Canal 11 regarding the evolution of the Parisian project. Without downplaying the immense talent of past stars, notably Neymar, Lionel Messi, and Kylian Mbappé, the Portuguese international primarily defended a simple idea: at the highest level, talent only truly matters when accompanied by total commitment.

Vitinha: “You can’t afford to have one, two, or three players who don’t run.”

“You can’t afford to have one, two, or three players who don’t run. They’re among the best in history, but that’s not always what’s best for the team. That’s what makes the difference with the current PSG. The forwards mark the full-backs like crazy.” “You see a (Ousmane) Dembélé, a Gonçalo (Ramos), pressing at the edge of the box and being the first to press into the opposition’s half.”

Vitinha’s statement goes far beyond a simple remark, because it resembles a moral assertion. The Portuguese isn’t seeking easy attention: on the contrary, he’s delivering a clear, almost brutally honest, locker room message.

By pointing out that Neymar, Lionel Messi, and Kylian Mbappé don’t always represent the ideal for team balance, he publicly endorses the direction taken by Paris Saint-Germain. His message is crystal clear: in today’s football, prestige no longer protects against high standards.

By praising the pressing of Dembélé and Gonçalo Ramos, Vitinha is advocating for a new hierarchy, based on sacrifice, discipline, and leading by example. And coming from a player who has experienced firsthand the weight of big egos, this statement inevitably carries more weight.
