Having arrived in 2021 from Sporting Portugal, Nuno Mendes has been quick to show that he has great qualities. Unsurprisingly, Paris Saint-Germain wanted to secure his future with a contract extension for the 22-year-old left-back, which was made official today.
This is excellent news, with PSG “protecting” themselves at mercato level with one of their most talented players. At least, he’s particularly difficult to replace in a position where top-level players are in short supply due to the need for completeness.
Nuno Mendes still has room for improvement in terms of defensive positioning and attacking options, but he has already amply demonstrated that he has a place on the biggest footballing nights. Coach Luis Enrique has also developed a possible role as a central defender (rather in a 3-man line). This gives him an extra option.
We’re delighted to see his attachment to the Parisian club, and hope that the rest of the adventure will be even better. And with less recurrent injuries, which may have been his major drawback.
