This week saw the first leg of the Champions League 2024-2025 Round of 8. UEFA then organizes various fan votes. Paris Saint-Germain, who beat Liverpool at the Parc des Princes today (0-1, video highlights PSG/Liverpool), did not have a player in contention for the Champions League Player of the Year award. The competition was between Alisson Becker (32-year-old Liverpool goalkeeper), Rodrygo (25-year-old Real Madrid striker), Martin Odegaard (26-year-old Arsenal attacking midfielder) and Harry Kane (31-year-old Bayern Munich striker). Alisson came out on top.
There was plenty of competition, but Alisson’s performance against PSG was exceptional. He saved his team’s blushes despite Parisian domination with a number of excellent saves. We can only hope for Paris’ sake that he will be a little less fit in the return leg.
