It was a near-perfect evening for Paris Saint-Germain fans, as they watched their club defeat Olympique de Marseille on Sunday evening (3-1, video highlights PSG/OM), and expressed their delight at their quarter-final qualification at Anfield. All that was missing was a clean sheet to make it an exceptional evening. PSG coach Luis Enrique took time out after the match to talk to DAZN journalists about the evening’s adversity:

Enrique: “There was tension and a bit of a Champions League atmosphere”.

Was it an exceptional week?

It was a difficult match to be superior. It’s a classic, a very special match for the players and the fans. We felt there was a lot of tension and a bit of a Champions League atmosphere. We didn’t have our usual level of fluidity. We deserved to win the match.

Didn’t you expect Marseille to be at that level?

They showed a lot of personality. They’re definitely a top-class team. I felt it was a Champions League match. There was a lot of tension. We could have done better and we’re happy to have been better. With this stadium and these fans, it’s incredible. It’s been a great week.

“We’re getting ready for what’s to come”.

Is the hardest part still to come?

As the points, days and months go by, we’ve almost got Ligue 1 in our hands. We’re in the quarter-finals of the Champions League and the semi-finals of the French Cup, just like last season. I think the team is progressing well, and some of our youngsters are gaining a lot of confidence. We’re getting ready for what’s to come.

Did you feel you’d be at this level by now?

I’m always optimistic. I defend my team. When there are results that aren’t normal, when we create a lot of chances, I understand that the team has shown that it has a very high level. We can be competitive against anyone, we’re at a very good moment. This team is enjoying playing and training. I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future, but we’re going to keep on being like this.
