On Matchday 26 of Ligue 1 2024-2025, Paris Saint-Germain beat Olympique de Marseille 3-1 at the Parc des Princes (video highlights PSG/OM). As a result, they are now just a few points away from the championship title, with a 19-point lead and a possible 24 points still up for grabs.

In the final match of the day, PSG were not as relaxed as might have been expected against Olympique de Marseille. However, they were able to win and take a commanding 19-point lead. The title could therefore be secured on the next matchday, after the international break, should Paris win and Marseille lose.

Behind them, Nice were unable to take advantage of the situation, as they were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw in the opening match of the day, with an injury-time equaliser. Monaco climbed back up to 3rd place with a well-managed trip to Angers, who for their part are slipping back towards relegation after seeming to enjoy a little peace of mind not so long ago. With a draw and 3 defeats to their name, it’s imperative to react.

The day’s slip-up in the European race was Lille’s, who were taken by surprise in Nantes, despite having been shown the red card a few minutes earlier. They have pulled off a fine coup in the race to stay up, although they are far from safe, of course.

And it’s Lyon who overtake Lille after a complicated victory over Le Havre, who can have some regrets as the 17th-placed team led 1-2 at Lyon’s ground. A match with a refereeing controversy, which never fails.

Lens and Strasbourg, winners against Rennes and Toulouse, are still clinging on to Europe with the hope of a place in the next round, while Brest has a small but not insurmountable gap. It’s a very tight race, and a lot can still happen.

Montpellier, on the other hand, seems to be out of the running, even if the point difference means that it’s still possible to stay up. Their match against Saint-Etienne was stopped during the 0-2 defeat when there was arson in the stands. The crisis will be difficult to resolve.
