Ligue 1 - Matchday 27 review: PSG has to wait and has a new runner-up

PSG got the job done on their return from the international break to keep their hopes of becoming champions alive this weekend. Although they were a little overwhelmed by Stéphan’s pace at the start of the match, they then regained control and were even able to run out comfortable winners. Except that not all the conditions for the title were met.

Indeed, OM had lost 3-1 at Reims beforehand, further undermining Marseille’s argument that the Parisian budget explains everything. Above all, it meant losing 2nd place behind AS Monaco, who pulled off a major coup with their win over Nice, as well as delaying PSG’s title bid.

The race for Europe is still very much up in the air, with Lille winning the derby at Lens. Lille are now 3 points off 2nd place, while Lens are beginning to look a little distant. Even if it’s not unplayable. Strasbourg pulled off the day’s other major coup in this part of the table with a spectacular victory over Lyon. This was enough to overtake them and show that Strasbourg are a force to be reckoned with right to the end.

On the maintenance front, Le Havre took 3 precious points against Nantes, even if they’ll still have to fight hard. Nantes remain in the worry zone, as do Angers, who saw Rennes gain ground. Reims struck a blow by beating OM to get their heads above water, but there too, nothing is certain. Saint-Etienne and Montpellier can still climb back up. The Stéphanois in particular, while Montpellier seem to be in an unstoppable downward spiral.
