This Saturday, as part of Matchday 28 of Ligue 1 2024-2025, Paris Saint-Germain (1st) take on Angers (11th) at the Parc des Princes (kick-off 5pm, CET). Marc Bollengier (33) has been chosen to referee the match. He has a wealth of experience in Ligue 1, with 47 matches to his name.

The man with the whistle will be assisted by Thomas Luczynski and Yannick Boutry. The 4th referee will be Pierre Legat. Video assistance will be provided by Hamid Guenaoui and Stéphane Bré.

Yellow cards –

With Mr. Bollengier on the whistle, we can expect relatively few yellow cards to be issued during the match. Indeed, while the national average per match is 3.53 (standard deviation 0.39), Saturday’s referee has given an average of 3.32 yellows per match throughout his career in Ligue 1 (Transfermarkt figures). That’s low, and let’s hope it’s thanks to dialogue and not excessive leniency.

Direct red cards –

The man on the whistle on Saturday was equally harsh on direct red cards. In fact, Bollengier is at 0.13 exclusions per match in his career, whereas the national average per match is 0.17 (standard deviation 0.07). If this is thanks to good management, it’s a very good thing.

Second yellow cards –

Marc Bollengier, on the other hand, has a habit of sending off a player after his first yellow card in a match, since he has given the same player a second warning an average of 0.15 times per match. This is well above the national average of 0.09 (standard deviation 0.03). With few yellows and reds, this is very nearly high. Clearly, a cautioned player is well looked after and needs to be careful.

Penalties –

Finally, when it comes to penalties, the man on the whistle on Saturday is also higher than average, with 0.43 penalties whistled per match, compared with the Ligue 1 average of 0.34 (standard deviation 0.08).
