On Saturday May 31, Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan face off in the Champions League final at Munich’s Allianz Arena. In the meantime, we’ll be keeping an eye on the Italian club’s performances and infirmary. On Sunday, they played host to Lazio Rome (6th) on the 37th day of Serie A. It ended with a 2-2 draw that was hard to digest.
Starting line-up:
Taremi – Thuram
Di Marco – Mkhitaryan – Calhanoglu – Barella – Dumbries
Baston – Acerbi – Aurel Bisseck
Sommer
Logically enough, since Inter Milan are in the running for the title with Napoli (1st), it was a “standard team” lined up at kick-off, except that Lautaro Martinez (injured) was replaced by Taremi. Again, we saw good vertical play, pressing and mobility, as well as a certain fatigue and consequent weaknesses.
These irregularities were evident in the statistics against a fine team (10 shots to 12 for Lazio, 56% possession for Inter, 5 corners to 1 for Inter). Aurel Bisseck opened the scoring on 45+2 minutes, Pedro equalised on 72 minutes, Dumfries restored the lead on 79 minutes and Pedro equalised again (from the penalty spot) on 90 minutes.
A single point, therefore, was a bad result for Inter, who could have moved ahead of Napoli, who also drew 0-0 at Parma.
