This Saturday evening, Paris Saint-Germain defeated Inter Milan 5-0 (video highlights PSG/Inter Milan) in the final of the Champions League 2024-2025 at Munich’s Allianz Arena. Speaking to Sky Italia, Inter Milan president Giuseppe Marotta acknowledged Paris’ superiority after the heavy defeat. Despite the difficult evening, he reaffirmed his total confidence in Simone Inzaghi, whose future would not be called into question by this setback.
Marotta “A negative evening
“It was a negative evening, with our opponents outclassing us in every area. That shouldn’t erase our performance (…) It doesn’t change our opinion of Inzaghi, as we said we’d see him during the week. He’s got a one-year contract and he’s shown that he’s up to the job. It’s not a negative evening that erases all the merits. We’re going to meet up.”
The slap in the face inflicted by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final has not shaken Inter Milan’s management. Marotta was keen to stress that, although the team had been outclassed in every area of the game, the wreckage did not call Simone Inzaghi’s work into question. The Nerazzurri president points out that Inter’s European run remains remarkable, and that the entire staff, led by Inzaghi, has succeeded in raising the club to the highest level this season.
It’s good to see that the club doesn’t make decisions in the heat of the moment, in a context that could send everything flying. Inter Milan suffered, but they weren’t the only team to do so against PSG. Tactically, Inzaghi appeared to be without a solution, and perhaps he’ll leave, but it won’t be because of the result, but rather because of an obvious and logical end to the cycle.
