Paris Saint-Germain defeated Bayern Munich 2-0 in the quarter-finals of the Club World Cup on Saturday (video highlights PSG/Bayern Munich). Speaking to PSG TV after the match, Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique said.
Enrique: “We already knew before the match that it would be difficult”.
“It was a very difficult match. It’s always difficult to play against a great team like Bayern Munich. And if I think about the last part of the game, when we first played with one man down and then two, it was very difficult. I think it was a close game, we already knew before the match that it would be difficult, but we’re happy.
Enrique “I also think our fans deserve to see this”.
“We need to recover and think about the semi-final. In this very long season, to be here with this mentality that you can see from the team at every training session and every match… I think we deserve to be here. I also think our fans deserve to see this. I hope we’ll keep improving and be able to play in another final – that’s our goal.”
A magnificent quarter-final between PSG and Bayern Munich, worthy of the greatest Champions League evenings. If it was sometimes difficult to find any real dynamism in these early Club World Cup matches, the trend has totally changed since these quarter-finals.
Once again, PSG came away with victory thanks to their collective strength. Scoring the first goal was difficult, but killing off the match with 9 against 11 seemed impossible. But impossible is not Parisian this season. The Parisians have now qualified for the semi-finals, and are more than ready to take on the Real Madrid of a certain Kylian Mbappé.
