Marco Asensio, Paris Saint-Germain’s 29-year-old midfielder/attacker under contract until 2026, failed to fully establish himself with coach Luis Enrique. So he was loaned out to Aston Villa for the second half of the 2024-2025 season, but was not retained by the English club. After his return, we’re waiting to hear about his future. Foot Mercato reports this Thursday that there has been a major breakthrough with Fenerbahçe.
“An agreement has been reached between Paris Saint-Germain and Fenerbahçe for the player’s transfer. The amount has not been disclosed, but it is worth remembering that the Spanish media had recently reported an offer of €15m from the Stambouliotes.
No agreement has yet been reached between José Mourinho’s side and the former Real Madrid star. Sources in Turkey claim that Fenerbahçe have offered Asensio an annual salary of €9m, but that the latter finds this offer insufficient.”
There’s nothing official yet, and even if the rumour is confirmed, there’s still room for the transfer to fall through, as Asensio has yet to agree terms with Fenerbahçe. But it would be a big step forward to have the clubs find common ground.
Little by little, departures are taking shape, and that’s already positive. The mercato is progressing, but there’s no hurry. We’re expecting the “undesirables” to leave first, before the major projects, particularly recruitment, are completed. For the time being, let’s hope that Asensio’s exit is confirmed.
