This Wednesday at 9 p.m. (CET), Paris Saint-Germain will face Tottenham at the Bluenergy Stadium in Udine in the 2025 European Super Cup. At a press conference, Spurs coach Thomas Frank spoke about the match and his Parisian opponents.
Frank: “But from a certain perspective, PSG’s situation has other advantages.”
“It’s a huge opportunity to win a trophy against a team that didn’t do badly last season (smiles). It’s true, we have a more normal preparation period, and we coaches always prefer a normal preparation period.
But from a certain perspective, PSG’s situation has other advantages: they were still playing a month ago, and they haven’t lost everything; there are still traces of competition in their bodies, and they’ll be playing with a lot of freshness.
I am 100% convinced that PSG will be very competitive in this match. I think they are better equipped over a whole season. But for a single match, we are ready.”
While it is often pointed out that Paris only had one week of training for this match, compared to Tottenham’s full preparation, Frank does not necessarily see PSG as physically outmatched. This is more the position of observers, at least in France. But the Danish coach’s arguments also make sense.
The Parisians had a shorter break and are starting their preparation from a less distant point. However, PSG cannot be at their best for this match either. Except that Tottenham, who have also had injuries, will probably not be at their best either. These are different situations, with advantages and disadvantages.
There is no question of the Spurs thinking this will be an easy game, as the coach wanted to emphasize. This is understandable, as the Parisians impressed last season, particularly when faced with difficulties.
