Lucas Chevalier, 23-year-old Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper, spoke to Canal+ after the 4-0 victory over Atalanta this Wednesday at the Parc des Princes as part of Matchday 1 of the 2025-2026 Champions League. He mainly discussed his rather unusual mission in Paris.
Chevalier: “There’s always work to do.”
Weren’t you too bored?
A little more so in the second half, because when we scored the third goal, I think Atalanta gave up. It had become too complicated for them. But in the first half, there’s always work to do, and as long as we win, if I don’t need to be there too much, then everything’s going well.
Chevalier: “We’ll have to be there when we have to make the saves.” »
Is it completely different being a goalkeeper at Paris Saint-Germain?
Yes, it’s very different. The ball doesn’t often end up in my hands; it mostly ends up at my feet, and that’s what the coach asks me. If I have to analyze, it’s on the ball’s releases; there are always things to improve.
In that sense, I think I’m a big part of the team when we have the ball, and I have to be there when it’s time to make the saves. It’s bound to happen at some point. I’m ready, and it’s fun to play with these players; it goes very quickly.
Chevalier: “I hope it’s not serious and that he’ll come back very quickly.”
Doesn’t he miss touching the ball more?
No, because we’re winning the match. Today, I’m not conceding any goals. In Lille, I had to stop balls, but that’s the way my career has progressed; I’m playing in a team that’s stronger today.
Neves injured?
I didn’t ask, but we’re a bit hampered by injuries at the moment. The coach will try to be careful. With last year’s season, things are going to get tough. They’ll do everything they can to protect the player, and I hope it’s not serious and that he’ll return very quickly.
