Javier Pastore, the 35-year-old attacking midfielder who spent 7 seasons with Paris Saint-Germain (2011-2018, 269 official games played), has made a major announcement to RMC Sport: the end of his career, while he is currently without a club, is imminent.
Pastore “it was suffering.”
“ I’m not coming back to soccer. Before June, I’m going to announce the end of my career. I had hip surgery in February, six months ago, and put in a full hip prosthesis because I couldn’t take the pain any more.
Honestly, I spent three and a half years of my career in a lot of pain, and it was a pain in training sessions and matches. So I opted for an operation.
Pastore: “ I don’t think I’ll be coming back to play soccer”.
Now, I’m doing very well, I have no more pain, nothing, I’ve started doing small training sessions but I don’t think I’ll be back to play soccer,” comments relayed by Onze Mondial.
Slowed down at PSG by recurring injuries (notably to his calf), Pastore has tried to revive his career at AS Roma (2018-2021), Elche (2021-2023) and Qatar SC (2023). But as the Argentinian clearly states, the pain has been too much. He’s only been able to play 50 games in 5 years, and at 35, his choice is completely understandable.
It’s a difficult time for him, of course. It’s also a difficult time for his fans, who were perhaps hoping to see his talent expressed on the pitch once again. Pastore made PSG dream, he was part of the first stones of the great project launched in 2011.
We hope he will receive a fitting tribute, and perhaps a role at PSG. But there’s no word yet on his future career.
